Whitsunday Reef Festival announces headline acts for 2016
The Whitsundays’ favourite family-friendly festival has taken it up a notch with the announcement that two of the country’s hottest bands will headline the live performances this year.
The festival is a 10-day entertainment extravaganza in Airlie Beach with street parties, live music, carnival rides, market stalls, fireworks and plenty of free, family-friendly activities.
Headlining the 2016 event, from August 5 to 14, are music festival favourites Electrik Lemonade, and Townsville’s King Social, who gained fame on popular TV talent show “Australia’s Got Talent” earlier this year.
The bands, both known for their electrifying live performances, will perform on Saturday night (August 6) on the Beach Music main stage as part of the street party, in the centre of town.
The Whitsunday Reef Festival celebrates what it means to live in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef as Airlie Beach comes alive with thousands of people enjoying events all over town including the Main Street, foreshore and lagoon.
The free fireworks on the foreshore kick off the fun on Friday night, with market stalls, carnival rides and food and drink on offer. The hugely popular Street Parade and the Revvin’ the Reef Car Show are the highlights on Saturday, while the Family Fun Day on Sunday offers lots of free activities.
The festival also offers reef art installations, a wearable art competition, sand sculpting, a recyclable craft regatta, comedy gala, fashion, movie nights and helicopter joy flights.
“The festival is for all ages and aims to entertain people in a safe, family-friendly environment,” event organiser Margie Murphy said. “Many of the events are free, meaning it is very affordable entertainment for families, who can have a great time and not worry about blowing the budget.”Share
