Everyone’s invited – from Townsville to Mackay and out to the mines! Come to Airlie Beach for the 2009 Big 4 Adventure Whitsunday Reef Festival. Started in 2001 as a celebration of the region’s wonderful natural assets, the festival will be 4 days of entertainment consisting of a fireworks extravaganza, live music on the beach, Comedy Gala, Dinner Dance, Brazilian Carnival party, fashion parade and wearable art awards, colourful Street Parade, starlight movies at the Airlie Beach Lagoon and a massive Family Fun Day. Come for a day or stay for the whole weekend!
Running from Thursday 15 October to Sunday 18 October many events on the foreshore are free of charge and there is a great choice of entertainment for kids, adults and families. The program opens on the Thursday night with the popular Comedy Gala at Waterline on Shingley. Come and laugh your way through the evening with supper and show at $65. If you’re looking for something more casual, grab a blanket or chair and head to Video Ezy Starlight Movies at the Lagoon to watch the ‘G’ rated Bedtime Stories at 7pm.
Friday night it’s all happening down at the foreshore on Airlie Beach with live music from 6pm, SEA FM simulcast and the Reef Fire fireworks. For the best location to enjoy the fireworks, join the ritzy set for Frocktails at Deja Vu on Water’s Edge including champagne, canapés and a sassy and sophisticated fashion parade. Saturday 17 October comes alive with the markets, camel or helicopter rides, a sand sculpting competition, wearable art awards and the colourful and fun Street Parade. After the parade don’t miss the big drum off led by our Brazilian carnival performers followed by Beats on the Beach from 6pm. Dress-up for the Blue Ribbon Quota Dinner Dance at PCYC from 7pm or stay out late for the Brazilian Carnival Party from 10:30pm at Magnums. Sunday is a massive Family Fun Day with more games, rides, music, competitions and prizes galore. Relax at the end of the weekend with the gorgeous movie Marley & Me at the Airlie Beach Lagoon.
