The vibrant town of Airlie Beach will light up from Friday July 31st, as the Whitsunday Reef Festival hits town. The region’s annual favourite festival is a delicious combination of family fun, community events, all-night celebrations, food, fashion, fireworks and some of the biggest street parties in the north.
The festival, now in its 15th year, is all about the Reef, as it celebrates what it means to live in the Whitsundays, on the edge of the Coral Sea, in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.
Friday July 31st will see the spectacular Fireworks on the Foreshore kick off the festival, followed closely by top live music and djs on the Beach Music Stage in the main street of Airlie. Join the thousands of people dancing the night away, free for all to enjoy!
Saturday morning will see an exciting new event – the Main Street Car Show followed by the ever popular Rotary Street Parade on Saturday afternoon. Spectators flock to Main Street to watch the amazing floats pass by. Cafes, bars and restaurants overflow as locals and visitors alike enjoy Whitsunday hospitality and the perfect winter weather. Following the parade the Beach Music Stage will be rocking once again with some huge live acts, including the David Flower Band, who will be sure to have everyone enjoying the street-party vibe.
The younger kids are the focus on Sunday, with the Telstra Family Fun Day, with a carnival atmosphere and lots of traditional games such as 3-legged and sack races alongside modern activities like selfie competitions, with some awesome prizes up for grabs.
There are many other events and activities during the 10 day program including old favourites the Comedy Gala and Frocktails fashion nights, Wearable Art Parade, carnival rides, market stalls, reef art exhibitions and much, much more. Details of more exciting new event additions still to come such as the Beach Race Day, Sunday August 9th, to include the Recyclable Regatta and other hilarious on-water races.
